"Slap Shot" visits the Philadelphia Phantoms - March 28, 2004

Digital images by Bruce "Scoop" Cooper
Director of Press & Public Relations, The Philadelphia Firebirds (NAHL) 1976-77

Paul, Chris, Goldie, Yvon, Jean, Guido, Janet, Louise, and friends.... As promised, here is a gallery of 21 digital images from your recent visit to the Philadelphia Phantoms.  You are more than welcome to download any or all of these images and to use them at will.  (To download any image, first click on its thumbnail to open it and then "right click" on the full size image to download.)  You are also welcome to post any of these on a personal website, but if you do please leave in place the small copyright notice which appears in the lower left of each image.

Below the thumbnails of these images I have added four other items which you may find of interest.  The first of these is a team picture of the 1976-77 Philadelphia Firebirds (NAHL) against which Goldie, Guido & Jean often played, and of which Mark Bousquet and the late Ray Schultz were both members.  (I was the PR Director of this team.)  You can also enlarge this picture by clicking on it.

The other three items are links to webpages of some of my hockey writings (I have written three books and about 2,000 articles on hockey over the years), as well as a few images from my 33 years in the game in Phialdelphia and Hershey.   The "History of the AHL in Philadelphia: 1927-1999" page is an illustrated piece I wrote for the 1999 AHL All Star Game which was played here.   My page entitled "A Farewell to Hersheypark Arena: 1936-2002"  includes an extensive illustrated history I wrote for the special program published for the last regular season AHL game ever played there on April 7, 2002, before the Hershey Bears moved last season to their new home in the GIANT Center next door to the Arena which had been the club's home since 1936.  (I also created the cover illustration for this program.)   This page also contains an extensive piece I wrote in 1997 about the original AHL rivalry between the Bears and the Philadelphia Ramblers during the 1938-39 season.  The final page contains a small gallery of hockey images  most of which relate to my long association with hockey in Philadelphia and Hershey.

It was a great pleasure to visit with each of you at the Phantoms game.  I hope you find these images and other pages of interest.
